Filipino foam brand achieves Guinness World Record for largest human mattress dominoes
The Philippines has broken a Guinness World Record! Local foam and mattress brand, Uratex, made history for the the largest human mattress dominoes.
Uratex was recognized by the record-breaking facts and achievements site for the feat after it had a total of 2,355 people, each holding a Classic Uratex Single mattress behind their back, toppling like dominoes continuously for 14 minutes and 25 seconds.
The participants were made up of Uratex’s employees as well as charity representatives, with the company’s CEO, Naty Cheng, setting off the record-breaking topple.
The challenge was attempted by the mattress manufacturer on Oct. 22 at the SMX Convention Center in Manila in celebration of its 55th anniversary.
With such a large number of participants, Uratex managed to outdo the record previously set in Brazil in 2019 with 2,019 people.
“The record to beat for this attempt was 2,019. I can now confirm that team Uratex has achieved 2,355. Congratulations! You beat the World Records title,” Guinness World Records Senior Records Manager Mai McMillan said.
As detailed in the official website of the achievement-keeping organization, things didn’t run so smoothly in the beginning, with some of the mattresses failing to fall over. The participants eventually found success once they had proper readjustment.
According to Uratex, the record-breaking number of 2,355 people has a significant meaning to the company. The first two digits symbolize the year 2023 and the last two digits signify their 55th anniversary.
Once the attempt was accomplished, Uratex shared that it had donated all of the 2,355 mattresses used to 55 charitable organizations, including homes for the elderly, women, children, and adults with special needs, and community hospitals.
The Guinness World Records stated that the title for the largest human mattress dominoe had been broken multiple times over the past 15 years.
The first one to achieve the record was Australia’s Channel Nine with a total of 80 people. Throughout the years, mattress manufacturers from New Zealand, Portugal, China, USA, Sweden, Belgium, and Spain steadily increased the number until it eventually reached the thousandth mark.
