Man goes temporarily blind after crying for 7 days in Guinness World Record attempt
A Nigerian man attempted to set a world record by crying nonstop for a week—and temporarily lost his vision as a result.
According to a recent report from BBC News, content creator Tembu Ebere forced himself to cry for seven days straight and went temporarily blind shortly in an attempt to set a Guinness World Record.
Ebere claimed that he had migraines, puffy eyes, a bloated face, and eventually lost his vision for 45 minutes as a result of his efforts. He claimed that throughout the seven-day cry-a-thon, he was crying while eating and listening to sad background music to make him cry even more.
"I had to restrategise and reduce my wailing," he told BBC in an interview, adding that he was committed to achieving his goal despite the challenges he faced.
Ebere's prolonged sobbing is not believed to have been officially recognized as a Guinness World Records attempt.
"Just to quell some recent rumours, we wouldn't ever monitor a record for the longest marathon crying," the global authority on world records posted on their Twitter account, sharing guidelines of what exactly makes a Guiness World Record.

The most populated country in Africa has contributed a staggering number of attempts at the Guinness World Records.
The organization subsequently advised Nigerians to be cautious with their "record-a-thons" on social media.
Days earlier, the world record organization warned Nigerians to seek confirmation before setting and trying to break any records.
The recent success of Chef Hilda Baci, who attempted to cook nonstop for 100 hours in an effort to popularize Nigerian cuisine, is credited with inspiring the trend of taking on similar challenges among fellow Nigerians.
According to the Telegraph, her attempt garnered so much attention that it brought down the official Guinness World Records website.
"Hilda’s cook-a-thon was in fact so popular that our website crashed for two days due to the immense volume of traffic we received from her legion of loyal fans," the GWR confirmed on its website.
Celebrities and the vice president of Nigeria praised the chef's efforts following her win. The 26-year-old chef completed the challenge in 93 hours and 11 minutes, breaking the previous mark that had been established in India in 2019.
