Most of us are hankering for a vacation or staycation somewhere. So how about planning a "perfectly splendid" staycation at the actual house used in The Haunting of Bly Manor?
Netflix has created an “official” Zillow listing for the house and grounds featured in The Haunting of Bly Manor, the follow-up to the highly successful horror anthology series The Haunting of Hill House.
The creepy listing located in the “English Countryside” reads like an advertisement on the online real estate database site, complete with ominous photos of the grounds and shadowy corridors and rooms. The listing reads:
“Bly Manor is a perfectly splendid 17th-century home in the English Countryside. The Manor is currently inhabited by the remaining members of the Wingrave family and their staff, who welcome guests of all ages and backgrounds to stay as long as they’d like.”
The site also lists various facts and features of the property of interest especially to long-staying guests.
The grounds feature a “stunning garden, a lively statuary, a mesmerizing lake and more.” The historic property has had many owners over the years, and "markings of its previous residents can be found all over the estate." Former and current residents of the estate report that the home has an airy and expansive quality, particularly in the evenings.
Sounds absolutely lovely, right?
“As you make your way up the drive, notice the ivy crawling the length of the manor and the parapets for overlooking the estate.”
The property managers pride themselves on their “immaculately kept grounds that float free of time.” They recommend that guests see the rose bushes, as these are “a labor of love.”
“Roaming the grounds, you will also find a chapel, an antique well-pump, a lively statuary, a greenhouse, and more. The lake, while not for swimming, is perfect for moonlit walks.”
Sure, why not, right?
While the exterior of the house is enough to entice anyone, the interiors are even more intriguing.
Guests “enter through hand-carved doors,” where they are “greeted by portraits and artifacts that are as old as the manor itself.” The ground floor contains "a spacious kitchen, a study for business, a classroom for perfectly splendid children & more.”
The second floor of the manor contains “two children’s bedrooms, complete with ample closet space, and a spare room for an au pair or other guests.” Unfortunately, “the master wing is off limits” but there are lots of other areas to explore.
As an added attraction, visitors may choose to view the “antique doll collection” in the basement and use the “attic to store your most prized possessions.” What a perfect splendid/dreadful Halloween destination!
The Zillow listing leads to a link to the teaser trailer of The Haunting of Bly Manor, the gothic supernatural drama series from the creator of The Haunting of Hill House which premiered on Netflix on Oct. 9, 2020.
The series, based on the 1898 horror novella The Turn of the Screw by Henry James, tells the story of a young governess (Victoria Pedretti) hired by Henry Wingrave (Henry Thomas) to look after his niece and nephew at the family country house after they fall into his care.
The off-market house isn’t listed for sale or rent on Zillow, but the duration of your stay can be as long as “eternity.”
