‘The Simpsons’ kills off longtime character after 35 years

Rest in peace, Larry the Barfly.

The Simpsons just wrote out original character Lawrence “Larry” Dalrymple after being in the longest-running animated series for 35 years.

In its episode that aired earlier this week dubbed Cremains of the Day, Homer Simpson and his friends Lenny Leonard, Carl Carlson, and Moe Szyslak can be seen talking about Larry and not knowing much about him as it was disclosed that he passed away at the bar. 

The cause of his death was not specified in the episode.

Tim Long, the co-executive producer who also worked as the co-showrunner on the said episode, told entertainment outlet TMZ that Larry’s passing was meant to hit the viewers hard even though he didn’t have his big moment in it. 

Larry made his first appearance on the beloved show when it premiered in 1989. He was simply a background character who threw only a few lines in his scenes.

Larry was voiced by Harry Shearer. Following the character’s demise in the series, the latter will continue to voice Ned Flanders, Mr. Burns, Reverend Lovejoy, and Principal Skinner.

The Simpsons revolves around the Simpson family and their satiric adventures in the town of Springfield.
