Ezra Miller's future in the DCEU in limbo following arrest
Ezra Miller’s future as The Flash in DC’s Extended Universe (DCEU) appears to be in limbo following his arrest for disorderly conduct and harassment last week.
In a report by Rolling Stone, the recent incident involving Ezra prompted Warner Bros. and DC executives to hold an emergency meeting to discuss the actor’s future with the studio.
Although there is no final decision yet, a “knowledgeable source” said that the executives’ consensus is to “hit pause on any future projects involving Miller including possible appearances in the DC Extended Universe.”
The Hawaii Police Department reported last week that the actor, known for playing the titular role in DC’s Justice League films, became agitated while patrons at a bar in Hilo began singing karaoke.
Miller reportedly started yelling obscenities and at one point grabbed the microphone from a woman singing karaoke and later lunged at another man playing darts. The bar owner reportedly asked the actor to calm down several times but to no avail.
Miller was later arrested and charged for disorderly conduct and harassment but was released on bail after paying $500.
Apart from this, a separate report from Rolling Stone said that a couple also filed a temporary restraining order against Miller after the actor, who was staying with them, allegedly broke into their apartment and threatened to kill them.
The alleged incident happened right after Miller posted bail following his arrest. Citing court documents obtained by Rolling Stone, the actor was quoted saying “I will burn you and your slut wife.” Additionally, Miller is also reportedly accused of “stealing a passport and a wallet."
Two years before this incident, Miller also appeared in a viral video which showed the actor apparently choking a woman at a bar in Iceland.
Miller is slated to reprise his role as the Scarlet Speedster in the Andrés Muschietti-helmed The Flash on June 23, 2023. There is no word as of now whether the film will push through or not after the incident.
There’s a lot at stake in Miller’s first solo film as The Flash, as the superhero tentpole is expected to reboot the DCEU continuity with the Flashpoint storyline.
In the story created by Geoff Johns and Andy Kubert for DC Comics in 2011, Barry Allen—aka The Flash—travels back in time in a bid to prevent his mother’s death. But in doing so, he wakes up in an entirely different timeline: his mother Nora is alive while his father, Henry, who is alive in his own timeline, died from a heart attack.
The comic miniseries also introduced a different DC universe: Thomas Wayne becomes the Batman after Bruce’s death while his wife Martha goes insane and eventually turns into the Joker. Wonder Woman and the Amazons are at war with Aquaman and the rest of Atlantis while the US government captures Kal-El after his ship crashed in Metropolis instead of Smallville.
The Flash solo film will also see the return of two actors who previously donned the cape and cowl: Michael Keaton’s iconic Dark Knight from Tim Burton’s 1989 Batman will appear in the upcoming film, as well as Ben Affleck, who played the role in the previous DCEU film Justice League.
Additionally, they will be joined by Sasha Calle, who is set to make her debut as the DCEU’s Supergirl.
