iPhone 15 vs. iPhone 14 vs. iPhone 13: Apple's smartphones compared

By John Patrick Magno Ranara Published Sep 13, 2023 7:28 pm

There's a new gadget in the market and it's none other than Apple's latest smartphone: the iPhone 15 series.

Four variants were unveiled during the tech giant's "Wonderlust" event on Sept. 12 (Sept. 13, Philippine time): the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus , iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

For all of you Apple aficionados out there who are in need of an upgrade, you may be wondering whether you should splurge on the latest series or simply bet your money on an older model instead. Here's an extensive comparison between the iPhone 15, iPhone 14, and iPhone 13 models to help you with your decision.

Appearance

The difference between the three series is most noticeable in the colors. The iPhone 13 lineup comes in silver, gold, graphite, sierra blue, and alpha green skins while the iPhone 14 series has midnight, purple, starlight, product, red and blue colors for iPhone 14 and deep purple, gold, silver, and space black for its Pro models.

The iPhone 15 meanwhile delves away from the dark colors by having the models in pink, blue, green, yellow, and black skins. The Pro versions are the most distinct one of all as they were given a strong yet lightweight design that is made from titanium—something that has never been done in previous iPhone models.

Touted as Apple’s "lightest Pro lineup ever," it is available in black titanium, white titanium, blue titanium, and natural titanium finishes.

The new series is also designed with the environment in mind, being made with recycled and other low-carbon materials.

Display and performance
iPhone 13 Pro / Apple

Like the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 series, the latest iPhone lineup  retains a 6.1-inch display for iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro and a 6.7 -inch display for Pro Max. All models across the three series also sport an OLED or Super Retina XDR display for a more vibrant visual experience, as well as a MagSafe wireless charging, Face ID, and 5G connectivity.

Unlike the older iPhone 13, however, the subsequent models are made with a pill-shaped cutout serving as a "Dynamic Island," a feature that allows for more convenience regarding your activities,

Through this, you can easily see the next direction in Maps, control music, as well as get real-time updates on food delivery, ride sharing, sports scores, travel plans, and more.

The ProMotion feature, Apple's marketing term for a 120Hz refresh rate on the display, is still present across all Pro versions of the series. This helps you have a smoother visual experience while you're scrolling on social media or playing mobile games.

Camera
iPhone 14 Pro / Apple

iPhone's quality camera is arguably the feature that most Apple users look forward to.

Compared to the iPhone 13 series, which only has two 12MP shooters capable of 2x optical zoom, 5x digital zoom, and optical image stabilization, the iPhone 14 Pro versions and iPhone 15 models boast a powerful 48MP main camera that results in sharp photos and videos with excellent details.

The iPhone 14 introduced Camera Action, a stabilization feature enabling you to take smoother videos as if you're using a gimbal. But the iPhone 15 kicks things up a notch by having the front camera automatically adjusting when there’s a person, dog, or cat in the frame, or when a user taps to focus, making it an ideal gadget for selfies.

Battery
iPhone 15 / Apple

One significant difference that makes the iPhone 15 series superior to the older models is that it has finally ditched Apple's proprietary Lightning charger in favor of the universally accepted USB-C connector, allowing the same cable to charge iPhone, Mac, iPad, and the updated AirPods Pro (2nd generation).

Because of this, the charging limitations of Apple products can now be diminished, giving users a more convenient ways to charge and transfer data through different devices.

Battery-wise, the iPhone 15 series improves from the older models, with up to 26 hours of video playback for the standard version and 29 hours from the Pro versions. The iPhone 13 series has 22 hours of battery life for Pro and 28 hours for Pro Max while the iPhone 14 lineup ranges from 20 hours, 23, hours, or 29 hours depending on the model.
