Netflix has announced that the latest Pokémon animated feature will premiere on the streaming platform next month.
In a Twitter post, Netflix Geeked confirmed that Secrets of the Jungle, the 23rd animated movie in the franchise, is coming to the streaming platform on Oct. 8 as part of the company's 25th anniversary celebration.
The announcement also came with a brand new trailer which features Ash Ketchum and Pikachu exploring the forest of Okoya and discovering the mythical Pokémon Zarude and a young boy named Koko.
Here's the official synopsis of Pokémon the Movie: Secrets of the Jungle:
Deep within the Forest of Okoya, the Mythical Pokémon Zarude live in a troop and maintain a strict rule that forbids outsiders from entering their territory. Elsewhere in the jungle lives Koko, a human boy raised by a lone Zarude who left the troop. Koko has grown up never doubting that he is a Zarude. But one day, a chance meeting with Ash and Pikachu leaves Koko with his first human friend. Is he truly a Pokémon? Or is he, in fact, a human? When danger threatens the jungle, the bonds between Pokémon and human—and the love between parent and child—will be put to the test.
“During Pokémon’s 25th anniversary year, we wanted fans to have the opportunity to experience the newest animated Pokémon movie simultaneously as a global community," Senior Vice President of Licensing at The Pokémon Company International senior vice president Emily Arons said in a statement. "Pokémon animation is a much beloved pillar of the franchise and Netflix is the perfect partner to once again help us deliver a worldwide moment for fans as we celebrate 25 years of action and adventure with Ash and his Pikachu.”
As part of the franchise's celebration, The Pokémon Company also said that Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield owners will get an alternate form of Zarude as well as a Shiny Celebi if they sign up for the Pokémon Trainer Club email notifications by Sept. 25.
Prior to the announcement of Secrets of the Jungle, The Pokémon Company also revealed that a brand new Pokémon animated series will premiere on its YouTube channel and Pokémon TV beginning Sept. 9.
The eight-episode animated series titled Pokémon Evolutions will feature stories spanning various regions in the franchise. The first episode of the limited series will begin in the Galar region, most recently explored in the latest video game series Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield, and will culminate in the Kanto region, originally explored in Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green in 1996.
