Indie multiverse film 'Everything Everywhere All at Once' breaks A24 box office record
In the face of other large-scale multiverse movies, the new cult favorite film Everything Everywhere All At Once has dominated its production company's record of highest-grossing film in the US.
In case you didn't know, independent film company A24 has birthed a number of small-budget but popular films such as Midsommar, Hereditary, Uncut Gems,The Lighthouse, Lady Bird, and now, Everything Everywhere All At Once.
The Adam Sandler-helmed film Uncut Gems previously took the top domestic spot at $50M, but it's since been dethroned by the Michelle Yeoh film at $52.2M.
Though $52.2M doesn't quite make it to the standards of other superhero movies nowadays, it's still an impressive feat considering that the arthouse film only had a $25M budget—a far cry from the likes of fellow multiverse film Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness' $200M budget.
The film still has a long way to go in terms of beating other A24 films on the international scene. The horror film Hereditary still takes the top spot with $80.2M
Everything Everywhere All At Once follows Evelyn Wang (Yeoh), an unassuming laundromat owner and immigrant thrust into different multiverses and life paths in order to save the entire universe.
