This Is Pop is an upcoming eight-part docuseries that will focus on untold stories from pop music history.

Produced by Banger Films, the eight episodes will cover seven decades of pop music from boy bands to Britpop and will feature famous artists such as T-Pain, Hozier, Boyz II Men, Childish Gambino, Lil Nas X, ABBA, Shania Twain, Steve Earle, and Chuck D.

Each part of the docuseries are helmed by a different director and titled as Auto-tune, Stockholm Syndrome, When Country Goes Pop, The Brill Building in 4 Songs, The Boyz II Men Effect, Hail Britpop!, What Can A Song Do?, and Festival Rising, respectively.

Auto-tune will explore how its invention has affected or changed pop music since 1997.

Stockholm Syndrome will explore how ABBA and other Swedish artists and producers have contributed to the pop music industry.

When Country Goes Pop will dive deeper into the mixing of the two genres and how country music has received criticisms from its fans on what makes country music.

The Brill Building in 4 Songs focuses on New York City's Brill Building and how it has been a nesting ground for popular pop songs such as Sugar, Sugar, Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow, and Leader of the Pack.

The Boyz II Men Effect explores the original boy band, how this affected the pop genre, and how they set the template for boy bands in the ’90s.

Hail, Britpop! examines how Britain has returned to the “fun” type of pop when America was focused on “grunge” music.

What Can A Song Do? will show viewers the power of music and how it can be used as a weapon against social injustice, discrimination and marginalization.

Festival Rising explores how important music festivals are when it comes to collective experiences and how it acts as a cultural mirror that reflects interests and ideals.

“We started with the question ‘What is Pop?’, and found answers we never expected,” said series producer Amanda Burt of Banger Films.

“It’s more than the charts or what floats out of a car radio. It’s a perfect time capsule of how people were living as it was made and how they danced, loved, and cried as it was heard,” she said.

Banger Films is a Canadian film and television production company, which specializes in films focusing on heavy metal music and culture. They are also known for making music documentaries on different genres.
