From your computer screens to the big screen!

Popular life simulation video game The Sims is set to have a live-action adaptation soon, with Margot Robbie producing the film.

The Hollywood Reporter detailed that Kate Herron, who is best known for directing season one of the Marvel series Loki, has been tapped to helm the film. It will be produced by LuckyChap, which is run by Robbie, Tom Ackerly, Josey McNamara, and Sophia Kerr.

The company is also behind the fantasy-comedy film Barbie, which emerged as the highest-grossing film of 2023, as well as Saltburn and Birds of Prey. Electronic Arts, which published the game, will also be involved in the adaptation's making.

Sources meanwhile told Variety that development on The Sims live-action is still in its early stages, so details on its release date and cast have yet to be revealed.

This isn't the first time that the addicting game has been eyed for a movie adaptation. Back in 2007, 20th Century Fox was preparing to produce its own live-action film of the series, but it never got past the development stages for over a decade until it was finally canceled in 2019.

First released in 2000, The Sims allows players to create their own avatars and do various tasks with them, such as going to work, forming relationships, and starting a family.

Since its first entry, the game has introduced expansion packs that generally add new items, neighborhoods, characters, skins, and features.

Because of its open-ended gameplay, where players can choose their own goals and objectives, The Sims has become one of the best-selling computer games of all time.

Several sequels in The Sims series have been released—The Sims 2 in 2004, The Sims 3 in 2009, and The Sims 4 in 2014.
