'The Sims 4' launches trans-inclusive update with top surgery scars, binders, and more

Popular life simulation game The Sims just launched an update that includes giving visibility and recognition to the transgender community.

In its Jan. 31 update, The Sims 4—the 2014 installment of the franchise where players can create virtual people and houses—has introduced top surgery scars, binder, and shapewear.

Developer Maxis on the game's website said the new customizations are available for teen Sims and older ones, whether with a masculine or feminine frame.

Binders can compress someone’s chest, while shapewears control the body shape. These help transgender people feel more comfortable about themselves, especially if they cannot afford—or aren't ready yet for—body modification surgeries.

The update also includes medical wearables category, which has hearing aid and glucose monitors.

Several Twitter users expressed their delight with the additions.

"This is the best update since we could have feminine clothing on masculine frame and vice versa," one user said.

"This means a lot to us disabled simmers. More of this please!" another user said.

Another one, meanwhile, is hoping for wheelchairs in the next update.
