Oscar nominee Jessie Buckley to star in ‘The Devil in Me’ horror game

Jessie Buckley, one of the Best Supporting Actress nominees during Sunday’s eventful Academy Awards, is set to star in The Dark Pictures Anthology’s The Devil in Me.

The Devil in Me is the fourth and final entry in season one of Supermassive’s standalone horror series of games, which to date includes Man of Medan, Little Hope, and most recently, last year’s House of Ashes.

Buckley, who gained an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for 2021 drama The Lost Daughter will lead the game’s cast as Kate Wilder.

Buckley didn’t win during Sunday’s Oscars, losing out to Ariana DeBose for her performance in West Side Story. However, she is about to star in the Alex Garland horror flick, Men. The Irish actress has also appeared in other films like the HBO miniseries Chernobyl, I’m Thinking of Ending Things, Wild Rose and The Courier.

Supermassive teased the casting on Twitter Monday (March 28) following the Oscar Awards show.

The official announcement trailer for The Devil in Me previously released in Oct. 2021 teased “gruesome challenges” in a game that will in some way center on a sadistic serial killer who views his work as art.

The Devil in Me will take place in Wisconsin and is said to be based on the infamous Henry Howard Holmes—America's first serial killer—and his hotel "Murder Castle."

The game's title is a reference to Holmes' murder confession to the Philadelphia Inquirer, where he allegedly stated "I was born with the Devil in me."

The interactive horror game will follow five main protagonists, mainly members of a documentary film crew, who are lured to and trapped in a replica of the "Murder Castle."

The Devil in Me is set to release sometime in 2022 for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.

This June, Supermassive Games will also release an unrelated teen-centered horror game, The Quarry.
