Kathleen Hermosa loses triplets due to early miscarriage, but is hopeful for another blessing

Actress Kathleen Hermosa has revealed that she was about to be a mother of triplets but had lost them due to an early miscarriage.

In a YouTube vlog detailing her heartbreaking pregnancy journey, Kathleen explained that her loss was caused by a blighted ovum, otherwise known as an anembryonic pregnancy.

In a healthy pregnancy, an egg fertilized by sperm develops into an embryo. However, if an embryo does not "develop as it should," meaning the baby is not created in the gestational sac, it is called a blighted ovum.

Kathleen recounted that she and her non-showbiz husband Miko Santos first learned about their blessing in September. They were initially told by doctors that they were having twins but were later informed that it was triplets.

After sharing the good news with their family, including Kathleen's sister Kristine Hermosa and her husband Oyo Sotto, the couple went to have their babies' heartbeats checked, only to be told that the embryos did not develop.

"The three sacks of our babies ay walang laman and I don’t wanna give you this sad story energy because naniniwala ako and I want to be excited for God’s plans," a visibly tearful Kathleen said.

While she stressed that "there is nothing to blame," the 41-year-old actress could not help but have her heart broken at the news.

"I'm so excited, we're all so excited for our triplets. One is already a blessing, two is more than enough, and three, naniniwala ako is a miracle. Kasi wala naman saming may triplets or twins," Kathleen said.

During their conversation, Miko asked, "Wala na ba talagang chance 'yun?"

Kathleen remained hopeful, answering, "Mayroon pa yan, kasi these are miracle babies. I’m not giving up ‘cause ang mundo ko ay puno ng miracles, so di talaga naniniwala na di kaya ni God gawin. Lahat kaya niyang gawin."

The local star then opened up about having doubts about herself.

"I really have a lot of questions, I even asked God, 'Saan ba ako nagkamali, may nagawa ba akong mali?' I really don't understand why it happened. When at the very beginning of my pregnancy, we really decided to just do our best even though madaming restrictions," Kathleen said.

But in an Instagram post, Kathleen decided to remain firm in her faith that she will once again be blessed with a miracle in the future.

"No time to waste sulking, fretting, and in sorrow. Let's not allow ourselves to go spiral down that way. We/ I choose to be in a space full of hope and excitement!" she wrote.

"Now, let's keep ourselves busy, enjoy working hard, and claim to be useful in expanding God’s territory in business! Let's start to also prepare and be specific with our prayers!" she highlighted.

Kathleen and Miko tied the knot in Cebu in June this year.
