‘1989 (Taylor’s Version)' becomes Taylor Swift’s biggest release ever

Taylor Swift remains unstoppable, even in breaking records.

More than just a week after the released of the the highly anticipated ‘1989 (Taylor’s version),’ the album has broken records from her re-recorded hits and "From the Vault" songs being included in the charts for a staggering number of streams and record sales.  

The album, released on Oct. 27, is Swfit’s 13th album to hit number one on the Billboard chart and has exceeded her previous best of 1.578 million copies sold of Midnights which was released on Oct. 21, 2022.

It topped the chart on Nov. 5, with 1.652 million album units sold in its first week, making it the biggest debut of her career. The newly released EP builds on the success of the original release, which was certified nine times platinum.

According to Billboard, 1989 (Taylor's Version) has far exceeded the EP's 2014 release and has become the biggest since Adele’s 25 in 2015. It has also landed on the sixth-largest spot in unit sales since 1991, behind Adele, NSYNC, Eminem, and the Backstreet Boys. 

In addition, the newly released album broke the record for the most streams by an artist and the most-streamed album in a single day on Spotify in 2023.

In terms of copies sold, Swift's Fearless is still the pop siperstar's highest-selling album, having achieved a diamond certification. From Fearless in 2008 to 1989 (Taylor’s Version) in 2023, every studio album and re-recorded project by the global pop star has risen to number one.  

1989 (Taylor's Version) is the fourth of Swift's four re-recordings; the other three were Fearless (Taylor’s Version) and Red (Taylor’s Version) in 2021, followed by Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) in July this year.

The album’s success coincided with the music icon's The Eras Tour film, which continues to have tremendous success at the box office, having grossed $166 million in North America through its fourth week. 

While the movie is still in theaters worldwide, Swift is preparing to resume her live tour following a brief hiatus.
