Sia revealed she has autism, saying that she has only become fully herself “in the last two years.”

The Chandelier singer made the revelation in a recent episode of Rob Has a Podcast. “I’m on the spectrum, and I’m in recovery and whatever. There’s a lot of things,” she said.

“For 45 years, I was like ‘I’ve got to put my human suit on,’ and only in the last two years have I become fully, fully myself,” she continued.

While Sia has been open about bits and pieces of her personal life including her sobriety, according to PEOPLE, this the first time she talked about her late autism diagnosis.

“Nobody can ever know and love you when you’re filled with secrets and living in shame,” she said on the podcast as she got real about how she’s been feeling about her life lately.

“And when we finally sit in a room full of strangers and tell them our deepest, darkest, most shameful secrets, and everybody laughs along with us, and we don’t feel like pieces of trash for the first time in our lives, and we feel seen for the first time in our lives for who we actually are, and then we can start going out into the world and just operating as humans and human beings with hearts and not pretending to be anything,” the Australian songwriter added.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a “developmental disability caused by differences in the brain. Some people with ASD have a known difference, such as a genetic condition. Other causes are not yet known.”

The National Institute of Health said ASD “affects how people interact with others, communicate, learn, and behave.” It can be diagnosed at any age.
