After Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn's split a few weeks ago, sources say they have broken up due to “differences in their personalities” and that Joe didn’t like the limelight.

According to a PEOPLE report on April 10, though both parties have been silent about the split, insiders shared that their differences prompted the breakup.

"They've had rough patches before and always worked things out, so friends thought they would take some time apart but eventually come back together," said one source to PEOPLE, adding that the two "weren't the right fit for one another."

Additionally, sources said that the 32-year-old actor “didn't like the limelight.”

"Joe has struggled with Taylor's level of fame and the attention from the public," they said. "The differences in their personalities have also become harder to ignore after years together. They've grown apart."

In past interviews, Joe has been consistently highlighting the importance of privacy while working in the industry.

“We live in a culture that is so increasingly intrusive… The more you give – and frankly, even if you don't give it – something will be taken,” he said in an interview with ELLE.

Taylor and Joe started dating in 2016, in their six-year run as a couple, they are known to have a “super strong” relationship that many engagements rumors have surfaced. According to insiders, the couple had been "talking about marriage as recently as a few months ago."

Their breakup was first reported by Entertainment Tonight on April 9 (Philippine time), highlighting that "it was not dramatic,” and that their "relationship had just run its course.”

"They are friendly. She doesn't have anything bad to say about Joe," the insider said. "They just grew apart. Taylor is staying very focused on her tour right now."

Early on, fans have theorized that Taylor may have hinted at the split during her tour in AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on March 31 by swapping the Folklore track Invisible String—a song about “true love” of soulmates—with The 1—a song that tells the story of “lost love and remembering what was once had.”
