Valerie Concepcion turned emotional as she opened up about not being able to give her daughter the "normal family" setup that she wanted.

In her recent interview on Fast Talk with Boy Abunda, the actress was asked if she agrees with the statement: “Ang pag-aasawa, parang kontrata lang ‘yan. Pero ang pagkakaroon ng anak, pang-habangbuhay.” To which, the Kapuso star answered with a “no.”

“Hindi Tito Boy eh,” the 35-year-old actress said. “Siguro, bias ako kasi at the age of 23, gusto ko na magpakasal.”

When asked why, she said: “I don’t know, I think I’m in love with the idea of being in love.”

“Having a kid at a young age, of course, you want someone there for your child. Being a single mom, I want her to have that father figure,” she said, referring to her daughter Heather.

The "King of Talk" then asked The Seed of Love star if there was anything she wanted to apologize for to her daughter.

Valerie tearfully said that she wanted to say sorry for not being able to give her the “normal family” setup that she wanted. “She’s 18 now, hinahanap niya ‘yung tatay niya. So siguro, ang iso-sorry ko is ‘yung hindi ko nabigay sa kanya ‘yung normal na family dapat,” she explained.

The GMA-7 star went on to talk about the challenges she has faced as a single mother, including making sure that she functions both as Heather’s mom and dad.

“Tinatry ko so hard to be a mom and dad to her, so [it] actually pains me nung nalaman ko na hinahanap niya ‘yung tatay niya kasi parang feeling ko, hindi ako enough,” she said. “Hindi ko nabigay ‘yung lahat para hanapin pa niya ‘yung tatay niya.”

While it admittedly hurt her feelings, she said she understands why her daughter still wants to meet her father one day.

“But now, I understand that. Of course, it doesn’t make her love me less just because she’s looking for her father,” she said.

“She just really wants to know where she came from, her roots, and her story,” she added.

The Kapuso actress revealed she tried to reach out to Heather's dad, but she did not receive any response. “Mag-so-sorry din po ako sa anak ko na gano’n ‘yung tatay niya, because we tried reaching out,” continued Valerie.

“I tried telling him that ‘Our daughter is ready to meet you, she told me she’s ready’ but I didn’t get a response, sadly,” she revealed.

Despite their current situation, Valerie makes sure to tell her daughter that she should still honor her father as her parent, even if he has been absent for years now. “I always tell her, ‘Don’t be mad at your dad no matter what happens, bali-baliktarin mo man ang mundo, tatay mo ‘yan, you have to respect him.”

Heather turned 18 in November 2022. Valerie welcomed her with her ex-partner when she was only 16 years old.

The local star is now expecting her first child with Francis Sunga, to whom she's been married since 2019.
