A UNIQLO x Haruki Murakami collab is coming

By SAAB LARIOSA Published Mar 11, 2021 5:37 am

Global apparel retailer UNIQLO is set to launch the Haruki Murakami / Murakami Radio UT collection, a T-shirt collaboration with popular Japanese author Haruki Murakami.

The collection is set to drop on March 22 and showcases the world of Murakami through T-shirts with whimsical callbacks, motifs, and illustrations inspired by six of his novels Pinball 1973, Norwegian Wood, Dance Dance Dance, Sputnik Sweetheart, Kafka on the Shore, and 1Q84.

The lineup also includes designs with the cat featured on Murakami Radio, the novelist’s regular radio show aired in Japan that he himself produces and hosts—as it’s no secret among fans that Murakami is a jazz enthusiast.

Speaking with UNIQLO about his own sense of style, Murakami shared that “I try to wear plain clothes, the simpler the better. Jeans and a T-shirt, with a sweatshirt or sweater. Since I don’t need to show up at an office, I could wear anything I like.”

Ringing true to UNIQLO’s values of simplicity and longevity, Murakami furthered that “I think it’s great when somebody can make everyday clothes look comfortable. I’m not really impressed when people dress head to toe in brands or let their clothes dictate their style.”

Meanwhile, the shirts come in eight designs with a price tag of  P790.00 each.
