Want to end your couch potato ways this 2024?

One of the best ways to kickstart your year feeling fresh and motivated is through exercising. Working out not only helps you to lose a couple of pounds, but it will also improve your overall health—which will also reflect on your daily activities.

For beginners, aerobic exercise like walking and running is one good way to improve your endurance so you can have the stamina for other workouts as well.

If you want to shift from your sedentary to active lifestyle but don’t have the budget for a gym membership, here are some spots in the metro you can run to.

Quezon City Memorial Circle

Near the UP campus, this historical landmark can also be your haven amid the bustling roads of Quezon City. Do a lap (or more) in Quezon Memorial Circle’s 1.8-kilometer-outside perimeter path. Apart from running or jogging, you may also do other activities with your buddies like aerobics, volleyball, or your favorite HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training) routine.

If you’re feeling hyped up and strong, you can head over to Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife Center adjacent to it for more laps but with a different view. You may also do step workouts near the Amphitheater.

University of the Philippines - Diliman

If you need some nature fix without going outside the metro, you can never go wrong with UP Diliman’s Academic Oval.

You can briskly walk or jog its 2.2-kilometer loop with a canopy of lush Acacia trees. Not only can you reach your target steps, but you also get to enjoy your run with its scenic view and its fresh breeze. If you’re also into biking, you may also do laps as the space has its designated bike lane without having to worry about getting in the way of cars and motorcycles.

For Southies, you can get your daily runs in Filinvest City, Alabang. This one-hectare green space caters to any of your desired outdoor activities, like jogging and biking. It also has outdoor gym equipment like chest presses and ellipticals if you want to up your daily workouts.

Track 30th

Nestled in the middle of the business district in Bonifacio Global City, the Track 30th is also another green space you can run to. If you work or live near the area, get your daily goal steps on its designated jogging path while feasting your eyes with its interactive art installations.

Apart from jogging, you can also do other exercises in its yoga and exercise lawn and meditation garden.

Also in Makati, another spot you can go to for a quick jog is the Ayala Triangle Gardens. Do multiple laps and enjoy the scenic views of its garden landscapes and its public art installations. You can also grab your caffeine needs or a quick snack afterward from its nearby shops.
