Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, Mick Jagger, and more pay tribute to late Prince Philip
Prince Harry, his wife Meghan Markle, and key leaders such as former US President Barack Obama pay their respects to the late Prince Philip.
On Friday, April 9, the Buckingham Palace announced the passing of Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh, at the age of 99.
Following the news, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle released a short statement expressing their sadness through the pages of their organization, Archwell. "In loving memory of His Royal Highness, The Duke of Edinburgh, 1921-2021," read the post. "Thank you for your service... you will be greatly missed."
Meanwhile, world leaders, public figures, and key individuals also paid tribute to the Duke of Eidenburgh.
Musician Sir Mick Jagger was "saddened" about his passing and remembered his generous actions towards sports and young athletes. "Alongside his extensive charitable work he was a very active patron of many of the sports organisations my father worked for & helped so many young sports men and women. He will be fondly remembered," he tweeted.

Actor Tobias Menzies, who played HRH in the third and fourth series of Netflix's The Crown tweeted, "If I know anything about the Duke of Edinburgh I'm fairly sure he wouldn't want an actor who portrayed him on TV giving their opinion on his life, so I'll leave it to Shakespeare. "O good old man! how well in thee appears The constant service of the antique world...RIP."
Former US President Barack Obama recalled that The Duke of Edinburgh was "kind and warm, with a sharp wit and unfailing good humor." He wrote on Instagram, "It was our first introduction to the man behind the title, and in the years since, our admiration for him has only grown."
Obama also applauded Prince Philip for his inspiring acts. "Prince Philip showed the world what it meant to be a supportive husband to a powerful woman. Yet he also found a way to lead without demanding the spotlight — serving in combat in World War II, commanding a frigate in the Royal Navy, and tirelessly touring the world to champion British industry and excellence. Through his extraordinary example, he proved that true partnership has room for both ambition and selflessness — all in service of something greater."
US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden sent their condolences while honoring his legacy. "The impact of his decades of devoted public service is evident in the worthy causes he lifted up as patron, in the environmental efforts he championed, in the members of the armed forces that he supported, in the young people he inspired, and so much more," they said in a statement.
Controversial TV presenter Piers Morgan, tweeted: "A truly great Briton who dedicated his life to selfless public duty & was an absolute rock of devoted support to Her Majesty, The Queen, as the longest-serving royal consort to any British sovereign. A very sad day for our country. Thank you, Sir."
Spice Girls member Geri Halliwell tweeted that she is "Thinking of Her Majesty the Queen and the Royal Family" during this time.
Irish singer Ronan Keating of Boyzone recalled meeting Prince Philip, calling the experience an "honor." "A great honour to have met you Sir. You lived a full life a good life. My thoughts are with the people that are left behind. May you rest in peace," he wrote.
Prince Philip would have celebrated his 100th birthday on June 10. He was the longest-serving royal consort in British history.
