After their historic run at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, members of the Philippine Boxing team are finally home, with their three-medal haul.
The team, led by silver medalists Nesthy Petecio and Carlo Paalam, bronze medalist Eumir Marcial, together with Irish Magno, arrived at the NAIA Terminal in Pasay City 2 via Philippine Airlines flight PR427 at 4:45 p.m., Aug. 9, Monday.
Officials from Malacañang, Philippine Air Force, and the Philippine Sports Commission greeted the athletes upon their arrival.
The boxers also paid a virtual courtesy call to President Duterte, who announced that aside from their existing cash incentives, Petecio and Paalam will each receive additional P2 million for bagging silver medals from the Office of the President, and Marcial with additional P1 million for bringing home a bronze medal.
Meanwhile, Magno and other Olympians who did not bring home a medal will each receive P200,000 from the Office of the President.
Onboard the same flight with the team are coaches and sports officials headed by the Philippine Olympic Committee president Abraham Tolentino.
From the airport, the athletes, with the rest of the Philippine delegation, headed to Tagaytay where they will undergo their seven- to 10-day quarantine at the Summit Ridge Hotel.
