Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, underwent abdominal surgery and will remain in the hospital for about two weeks.

Kate, the wife of Prince William, the heir apparent to the British throne, would be taking a break from her public duties for now as she recovers at The London Clinic, a private hospital in central London near Kensington Palace.

"The surgery was successful, and it is expected that she will remain in hospital for 10 to 14 days, before returning home to continue her recovery," Kensington Palace said in a statement. "Based on the current medical advice, she is unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter."

Kate is hoping for her personal medical information to remain private, even as her condition maintains “normality” for her children as much as possible.

"Kensington Palace will, therefore, only provide updates on Her Royal Highness’ progress when there is significant new information to share,” the statement read, adding that Kate is sorry for postponing her upcoming engagements.

According to NBC News, a source confirmed that the condition is non-cancerous.

William is also expected to postpone a number of engagements to support his wife and take care of their three children.

"He will not undertake official duties while his wife is in hospital, and during the immediate period following her return home," the source told NBC News, adding that William won’t have foreign trips in the coming months.
