A man has been arrested and accused of killing someone after a human hand was discovered inside his pocket.

According to a report by CBS News, Solomon Martinez from Colorado is now in custody in Pueblo on a $1 million (P56 million) bond for first-degree murder charges.

Police started their investigation after learning about a “decapitated female” near Fountain Creek on Jan. 10. They later found the body of the victim identified as Renee Portillo.

According to a witness, he saw the suspect covered in dirt and blood on Jan. 9. The witness, per CBS News, claimed that Martinez asked him to dig a deep hole in exchange for $1,000 (P56,000). He told authorities that Martinez might have just murdered somebody.

The severed hand was found when Martinez was taken into custody during his shift as a security guard in an arts center.

CBS News reported that police officers also “observed that Martinez's vehicle had a red-colored smear underneath the trunk lid, and other areas of the car,” which they “determined was consistent with dried blood.”

When questioned by authorities, Martinez claimed he let a homeless man borrow his car, where his phone and firearm were stored. He alleged that it was the latter who killed the woman on Jan. 8 after refusing to pay for her service as a sex worker.

Martinez is scheduled for a motions hearing on Jan. 23.
