Man fatally shoots pregnant girlfriend for refusing to abort their child

A man from Florida has been put behind bars for fatally shooting his pregnant girlfriend after she refused to get an abortion.

According to a release from the Sanford Police Department, 21-year-old Donovan Faison is accused of committing double homicide for the murder of his 18-year-old girlfriend Kaylin Fiengo and her unborn baby almost 10 months after she was found shot to death in her car at a park.

The gruesome scene was discovered on Nov. 11, 2022 when a patrolling police officer found a vehicle backed into a parking spot and saw a lifeless Fiengo in the driver's back seat.

The pregnant teen died from an apparent gunshot wound and was later confirmed to be at the end of her first trimester at the time she was killed.

Results of the investigation reveal that Fiengo was at the park the night she was killed to meet with Faison, who she had been having multiple arguments with in the last few weeks. Fiengo's pregnancy was reportedly the focus of their fights.

"Investigators believe that Faison wanted Kaylin to terminate the pregnancy and Kaylin's refusal to do so was the probable motive for the homicide," the Sanford police said.

Months after her death, Faison was located by officers who promptly took him into custody. He is now charged with two counts of double homicide: one for his girlfriend and one for the unborn child.

Fiengo is survived by her 1-year-old son named Ace.

"Though Kaylin faced [many] challenges that set her apart from her peers in many ways, she made friends everywhere she went," the teen’s obituary states. "Kaylin loved spending time with her son, siblings, and friends. Kaylin really was a fun-loving child and had an old soul."

Sanford Police Chief Cecil Smith highlighted that the arrest comes after a "long, almost ten months, of an exhaustive investigation" and hopes that it can bring justice to Fiengo's death.

"This beautiful, young woman and mother was taken from this world far too soon, and in a horrific way. We hope that [the] arrest brings the slightest amount of peace for Kaylin's family and the young son she left behind. It doesn't bring her back, but at least she will have the justice she deserves," he said.
