Chinese airline accidentally puts seats on sale for $1.40 (P78) and ends up honoring the deal
A Chinese airline mistakenly sold tickets worth around $1.40 (P78) after a system glitch, and it’s honoring the deal.
According to Reuters report, China Southern Airlines had a two-hour system glitch on its mobile app on Wednesday, Nov. 8, where passengers were able to score domestic flights worth 10, 20, and 30 yuan or $1.37 to $4.12 (P70 to P230), as shown on the screenshots circulating online. The fare is usually priced at 400 yuan (over P3,000) to 500 yuan (about P4,000).
In addition to the ultra-low fare, passengers will also pay 110 yuan (over P800) for airport fees and fuel surcharges.
Despite the losses from the sudden system glitch, the Gunagzhou-based carrier announced on its official Weibo account the following day that it is honoring the deal.
"Passengers can use them as normal," China Southern Airlines wrote, noting that tickets paid for and issued that time are "all valid."
It isn't clear how many passengers scored on the deal, but they sure are a few of the lucky ones who benifitted from circumstances like this.
A similar glitch happened to Japanese airlina All Nippon Airways (ANA) last April, wherein travelers were able to score roundtrip business-class tickets for just $300 (P16,760).
Unlike China Southern Airlines, ANA later announced that it will "cancel and fully refund" all tickets purchased at that time, as they were "erroneously processed."
