Woman finds skeletal remains of missing person while looking for lost dog
A woman from Ohio was just looking for her lost dog when she found something else—the skeletal remains of a woman who had been missing for almost five years now.
In a report by Ohio-based news station WKBN, police said that the remains were found on Aug. 26 by a woman who was looking for her lost dog in the woods in the city of Youngstown.
While searching, she inadvertently stumbled upon the missing woman's remains wrapped in a cloth, which was then taken to the Mahoning County Coroner’s Office.
In a press conference held on Sept. 13, authorities identified the remains as those of Amy Hambrick, a 29-year-old woman who vanished in November 2017 when she was supposed to meet with a friend, but never made it, according to her mother. She left behind a daughter.
According to the outlet, the bones were sent to the Youngstown State University to be assembled and to be investigated by forensic dentists. Jason Simon, Chief of Detectives, said at the conference that they were able to identify Hambrick through her jawbone and dental records.
While investigators concluded that the bones were in the woods for a long time, it isn't clear exactly how long the remains were there or how long it has been since Hambrick died.
Simon also said that they are yet to determine the cause of death because of the mysterious conditions surrounding the case, but he underscored that "someone knows what happened."
Hambrick's family had been going the extra mile to find out what really happened to the victim. Simond reassured that the case will remain investigated by detectives through interviewing and reinterviewing people, as well as conducting tests to gather more evidence.
