'World's richest beggar': Indian man has P49.8 million net worth thanks to begging
A man from India has entered peak rags to riches mode after expanding his net worth to 75 million rupees (P49.8 million) off of begging on the streets.
The India Times reported that Bharat Jain of Mumbai makes 60,000 to 75,000 rupees (P39,000 to P49,000) monthly, thanks to the kindhearted denizens of the financial capital. This translates to a daily income of 2,000 to 2,500 rupees (P1,300 to P1,600).
Bharat didn't get the chance to have formal education due to his financial status. He, however, got married and had two sons, whom he was able to send to school—and graduate—no problemo.
His 10 to 12 hours of hustle every day along Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus railway station and Azad Maidan sports ground allowed him to purchase a two-bedroom flat worth 12 million rupees (P7.9 million), as well as two stationary stores that he rents out for 30,000 rupees (P19,900) per month.
Despite enjoying an already comfortable life—all while building his real-estate portfolio—Bharat's mendicancy work goes on, against the wishes of his loved ones.
Bharat earned the informal title "world's richest beggar" due to his efforts.
In May 2023, Global Finance Magazine ranked India as the 64th poorest country in the world out of 100 countries.
