The Philippines' Nicole Borromeo settled for third runner-up in this year's Miss International pageant.

held in Tokyo, Japan on Oct. 26.

For her national costume, Nicole wore a colorful sequined dress inspired by the "culinary treasure cherished by the Philippines and Japan," the sea urchin or uni. It was designed by Axel Que, who created hand-sewn sequins, reminiscent of Yayoi Kusama's iconic polka dots.

Meanwhile, her mermaid-esque evening gown was a light blue crystal embellished dress by Dubai-based fashion designer Furne Amato. It had a sleek serpentine silhouette and details that "mimic the bioluminescence of aquatic life, mesmerizing and mysterious."

Nicole advanced to the Top 7, allowing her to participate in the question and answer portion, where she was asked about what she has done to further the SDG (Sustainable Development Goals) initiative.

She emphasized her experience in volunteering for a non-profit organization to advocate for SDG #11 or "Sustainable Cities and Communities."

"As someone who experienced the wrath of natural disasters, home is everything. I have worked tirelessly with Habitat for Humanity under the SDG goal number 11, Sustainable Cities and Communities," Nicole answered.

"It is through this volunteer work that I could see in the faces of the children how much they wanted to help, how much they wanted to be a part of the future. Because when it comes to sustainability, we must keep in mind that it’s not only for the next generation but to include them in the process," she added.

The title went to Andrea Rubio of Venezuela. Coming close to the crown are the first runner-up Sofía Osío from Colombia, second runner-up Camila Díaz from Peru, and fourth runner-up Vanessa Hayes from Bolivia.

The Philippines has six Miss International titleholders, including model Kylie Verzosa who was the crowned in 2016.
