ABS-CBN stands by Angel Locsin after community pantry chaos

ABS-CBN expresses their support for Angel Locsin, following the incident at the community pantry in Quezon City the actress set up where a 67-year-old man died after collapsing while waiting in line.

In a statement released on Sunday, April 25, ABS-CBN said it “believes in the goodness of the heart” of the 36-year-old actress, who has “tirelessly helped our countrymen in times of crisis.” It added that the network stands by Angel.

The whole statement reads:

“ABS-CBN believes in the goodness of the heart of our Kapamilya Angel Locsin, who in her personal capacity has tirelessly helped our countrymen in times of crisis.

“We admire her commitment to continue serving the Filipino people with selfless dedication and love.

“We stand by her and thank her for being a shining example of generosity, accountability, and compassion.”

Angel has apologized and claimed responsibility for the incident. “Ang nangyari po ay akin pong pagkakamali. Sana po’y wag madamay ang ibang community pantries na maganda po ang nangyari,” she wrote in an Instagram post on Friday.

Angel added, “Sa ngayon po, I will prioritize helping the family and I will make it my responsibility to help them get through this.”

“I am very very sorry.”

The emergence of community pantries started last week one was set up on Maginhawa Street in Quezon City, in response to the community’s need for supplies during the pandemic.  It has since inspired other communities around the country to open their own, following reports of hunger and high unemployment rates amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Apart from ABS-CBN, Angel’s colleagues also expressed support

“God sees your beautiful heart and (its) pure intentions. Mahigpit na yakap Gel! We will pray for Tatay and his family,” said ABS-CBN comedian Vice Ganda in an Instagram comment.

“We know your heart and that your intentions are good. Praying for Tatay and his family. Mahigpit na yakap sa inyong lahat,” actress Iza Calzado said.
