The Philippine National Police in Misamis Occidental has formed a special task force to investigate the killing of broadcaster Juan Jumalon, also known as DJ Johnny Walker, who was shot dead on Nov. 5 while airing his show.

Col. Dwight Monato of the Misamis Occidental Police District shared in a Nov. 6 interview with DZRH News that a special task force was "immediately" formed following the death of the radioman.

He added that they are set to release a computerized composite sketch of one of the suspects within the day as seen by witnesses and on surveillance footage.

“Base sa CCTV at witnesses, dalawang tao ang nakapasok pero meron ding isang tao na naghihintay sa labas na nagmamando ng getaway vehicle nila,” Monato said.

Monato revealed that they have also flagged units and checkpoints to look out for the specific motorcycle that was used as the suspects’ getaway vehicle.

“Isa lang so far ang ma-identify ng witnesses kaya 'yun lang muna ang nagawa ng ating kapulisan sa tulong ng PNP Forensic unit,” he said.

Jumalon was killed by a gunman during his live broadcast for 94.7 Calamba Gold FM in his home in Misamis Occidental. According to Monato, they are still looking for possible motives for the killing, such as personal reasons like land disputes or his profession as a broadcaster.

“Base sa panayam namin sa kanyang pamilya, hindi naman siya hard-hitting na broadcaster. Ang platform niya, more on public service at advertisement ng services,” he said.

“Wala namang nasabi ang pamilya na may sensitive issue na tina-tackle sa kanyang pagiging broadcaster,” he added.

A P100,000 reward will be given to anyone who can help identify the suspects in the killing.
