Japanese cafe waitress fired for pouring own blood into cocktail
When it comes to cocktails, bartenders often experiment with the alcoholic drink by mixing all sorts of interesting and unusual ingredients to suit the tastes of their customers, but a waitress at a cafe in Japan took things too far when she infused the drink with her own blood.
In a report by Japanese news site Flash carried by The Straits Times, the waitress was an employee of the Mondaiji Con Cafe Daku, which is located in the Susukino entertainment district in Japan’s second-largest Hokkaido island.
The food spot is known for having their waitresses wear dark and goth-style make-up. It also describes itself as a space for "dark girls" and "problem children," according to the South China Morning Post.
In the public apology issued by the cafe, the woman's actions of pouring her own blood into the drink came about because one of the customers requested it.
However, Mondaiji Con Cafe Daku stressed that this was "absolutely not acceptable" and fired the woman from the job. They also said that they temporarily closed their business for a day in order to replace their drinking glasses.

A doctor, Zento Kitao, told the Flash that consuming the blood of other people is "an extremely dangerous act."
"Cases of people getting infected from drinking another person’s blood are rare, but major diseases can be transmitted through blood, including HIV, Hepatitis C, Hepatitis B and syphilis. If there are wounds in the mouth, it is easy to be infected by blood transmissions," Kitao said.
