Goobne restaurant of 'Business Proposal' fame to open first-ever branch in the Philippines
Do you remember the chicken restaurant in Business Proposal owned by Shin Ha-ri’s family? Well, it’s about to open its first branch in the Philippines for everyone’s enjoyment, whether they’re fans of the hit K-drama or not.
Goobne, which derived its name from the Korean term goob-da or “to roast,” said that its first-ever Philippine branch will open sometime this 2024 at One Bonifacio High Street Mall in Bonifacio Global City or BGC.
As its name suggests, it takes pride in its oven-roasted method, which it said brings the same crisp taste of the usual fried chicken except that it doesn’t use a pool of oil.
Its signature products include the Goobne Original, Goobne Pepper Crispy, which has a blend of Korean spices, and Galbi, which has a coating of sweet and smoky sauce.
The restaurant also offers dips like mozzarella cheese, cheddar cheese, and its in-house chicken sauce.
Opening its first store in Gimpo City in 2005, Goobne has over 1,200 outlets worldwide.
Its brand ambassadors include K-pop acts Girls’ Generation, EXO, ASTRO’s Cha Eun-Woo, and LE SSERAFIM, as well as K-drama stars Seo Kang-Joon, Kang Sora, and Cha Seung-Won.
Premiering in 2022, Business Proposal tells the story of Ha-ri (Kim Se-jeong), a food researcher at Go Food, who pretends to be her friend Jin Yeong-seo (Seol In-ah) on a blind date to have the prospective suitor herself. But things don't go as planned when Yeong-seo's date turns out to be Ha-ri’s boss, Kang Tae-moo (Ahn Hyo-seop).
The restaurant is a central setting in the story since it's Ha-ri's family business. Some of the limited series' iconic scenes include Ha-ri and Yeong-seo getting drunk in Goobne, Ha-ri showing Tae-moo how to cook their chicken, and the eventual couple helping serve orders in the jam-packed restaurant.
