A woman is missing after supposedly fake drowning in a river just to see whether her pet dog will save her.

According to local media, the 46-year-old from South Korea was reported missing in the Hongcheon River on the first day of July.

Detailing the incident, her friends—who joined her on a camping trip—told authorities that they talked about whether her dog will rescue her in times of danger.

The woman decided to find out the answer by jumping into the waters to appear to be drowning, but she was unfortunately dragged by a rip current that left her out of their sight.

Around 30 rescuers have been dispersed for the search and rescue operation, but it has been a challenge due to the muddy and fast-flowing river.

The search is still ongoing as of writing.

Local police said that they will also be conducting an investigation into her friends who accompanied her on her trip.
