Star City postpones reopening due to COVID surge

Star City has postponed its long-awaited reopening due to the current surge in COVID-19 cases in the Philippines.

The amusement park earlier announced that it would reopen this weekend after over two years of closure.

“While the current Alert level allows the operation of amusement parks or theme parks at reduced capacity levels, we feel that given the rising number of Covid 19 cases in the country, postponement is the more prudent thing to do,” Star City said in a formal announcement posted on their social media channels on Sunday (Jan. 9).

“Ensuring the safety & well-being of guests and employees takes precedence. We will be monitoring closely developments and make an announcement on a firm reopening date when the conditions are more favorable for all,” they added.

The postponement comes four days after the theme park announced they would finally reopen this Friday, Jan. 14, with an introductory Star Pass worth P400. Online, the theme park has been teasing its comeback since December 2021.

Sorry na…. Na-excite lang talaga kaming mag-announce, namiss kasi talaga namin kayo. Kaso dumadami ‘yung mga COVID-19 cases so doble ingat muna. Siyempre mahal namin kayong mga guests at employees namin and ‘yung health and safety nyong lahat ang priority ni Star City (We’re sorry. We just got excited to announce [the reopening], we just really missed all of you. But COVID-19 cases are rising, so let’s be extra careful. Of course we love our guests and employees, and your health and safety is Star City’s priority),” Star City said in a Facebook post a day before they released their formal announcement.

The theme park, located at the reclaimed area of the Cultural Center of the Philippines Complex in Pasay City, has been closed since October 2019, after being razed by a fire.

Last week, Enchanted Kingdom in Santa Rosa, Laguna, voluntarily suspended its operations until Jan. 16 due to the rising number of COVID-19 infections in the country.

The management said it was closing its doors to prioritize the safety of its guests and staff/cast members.
