The DC Universe has found its new Supergirl!

Milly Alcock, most famous for her role as young Rhaenyra Targaryen in HBO's House of the Dragon, has landed the role of Supergirl in an upcoming DC film.

"So excited to be part of the DC fam," the actress wrote on Instagram. "Thank yo uso much to @jamesgunn for trusting me with Kara/Supergirl."

According to entertainment outlet Variety, studio executive James Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran had multiple actors test for the heroine like CODA actress Emilia Jones and Zombies star Meg Donnelly, who voiced Kara Zor-El or Supergirl in animated films Legion of Superheroes and Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths Part One.

The actors, Milly included, reportedly wore the Supergirl suit and boots for onscreen auditions in Atlanta on the set of Superman: Legacy.

Gunn wrote on Threads that the House of the Dragon star was the first person she thought of for the role.

"I was watching [HOTD] and thought she might have the edge, grace, and authenticity we needed," he wrote.

The Girl of Steel will make her big screen return in the upcoming film Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which will be part of a new DC Universe that will be heavily based on the comics.

The first movie from the new universe will be Superman: Legacy, to be released in 2025, which stars David Cornswet as the titular Man of Steel.

Talking about the upcoming film, Gunn said it will be different from previous depictions such as CW series Supergirl starring Melissa Benoist.

"In our series, we see the difference between Superman who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time he was an infant, versus Supergirl who was raised on a rock, a chip off Krypton, and watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life, and then came to Earth when she was a young girl," he said.

"She's much more hardcore; she's not exactly the Supergirl we're used to seeing," Gunn added.
