Dolly de Leon attended the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Awards on Monday, Feb. 20 (Philippine time) at the Royal Festival Hall, Southbank Center in London.

The talented Filipina got nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Triangle of Sadness, alongside Angela Bassett (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever), Hong Chau (The Whale), Kerry Condon (The Banshees of Inisherin), Jamie Lee Curtis (Everything Everywhere All At Once), and Carey Mulligan (She Said). Condon ended up taking the award in the category.

De Leon is the first Filipino to ever get a BAFTA nomination

“It means a lot to me. They say I’m the first Filipina to be nominated so it’s a huge honor for me. And to be able to also be part of a monumental film like Triangle of Sadness, I’m so proud to be here,” she said in an interview on the red carpet.

In Ruben Östlund’s Palme d’Or-winning black satire, de Leon portrays toilet manager Abigail who suddenly takes charge of uberwealthy luxury cruise ship passengers after their ride capsizes and leaves them stranded on an island.

Her portrayal has earned her 15 more international nods, including the 80th Golden Globe Awards, 48th Los Angeles Film Critics Association Awards, and The Satellite Awards 2022.
