'Stranger Things' stage play trailer hints at final season ‘key’

Attention, Stranger Things fans! The series’ stage play is happening soon, and it might give hints about the upcoming season.

A new trailer for Stranger Things: The First Shaddow dropped on July 5 on its official social media accounts. In the minute-long clip, snippets of major scenes from the last four seasons were shown in reverse on a static analog television.

“The beginning of the Stranger Things story might hold the key to what is next,” it wrote.

It also featured a broken clock with spiders crawling out and a red-lit stage.

The play will be set in Hawkins in the year 1959. “A regular town with regular worries. Hopper’s car won’t start, Bob’s sister won’t take his radio show seriously and Joyce just wants to get out as soon as she can,” the description read.

“When new student Henry Creel and his family arrive, they find a fresh start isn’t that easy… and the shadows of the past have a very long reach.”

The stage play will serve as a prequel to the series. It was first announced in July 2022 and released its first teaser in March.

The play is written by Kate Trefry and will be directed by Tony Award winner Stephen Daldry with Justine Martin. It is set to premiere later this year at the Phoenix Theatre in London, England.

Meanwhile, the release date of the fifth and final season of the supernatural series is yet to be announced.

Early in May, the Duffer brothers Matt and Ross—the co-creators and co-showrunners—announced that the filming had been put to a halt following the writers’ strike.

“Writing does not stop when filming begins. While we’re excited to start production with our amazing cast and crew, it is not possible during this strike,” they wrote in a tweet.

“We hope a fair deal is reached soon so we can all get back to work. Until then—over and out. #wgastrong,” they added.
