Dream come true: EXO's D.O talks about his upcoming space film 'The Moon'

D.O of K-pop boy group EXO turned one of his dreams into a reality through his upcoming space film The Moon.

EXO's main vocalist, who once dreamt of taking part in a film that's set in space, shared in a statement that he joined the cast of the movie because he found the script "excellent." He added, "[I] wanted to challenge myself in expressing weightlessness with my body."

In the project, the singer-actor portrays the role of Sun-woo, a lone Korean astronaut who gets stranded on the moon. He worked as a SEAL member and molecular physics major before joining the Narae-ho space program in Korea. He boards a spacecraft in pursuit of his father's unrealized dream, but unexpectedly becomes the sole survivor of the expedition due to an unforeseen accident.

D.O expressed his hope to be able to vividly convey the many emotions of his character—from the awe of setting foot on the moon for the first time ever, to the fear of being left alone in space, and to his determination to survive in it.

EXO’s Doh Kyung-soo is astronaut Sun-woo in The Moon.

This marks another collaboration between D.O and director Kim Yong-hwa, who previously worked together on the hit television series Along with the Gods.

“Doh Kyung-soo possesses a gentle persona while also having a very intense face. I thought that through the character of Hwang Sun-woo, we could showcase his hidden passion and determination, providing a fresh impression,” Yong-hwa said.

The Moon is slated to open in Philippine cinemas on Aug. 16. Watch the trailer below.

Aside from being a part of EXO, D.O is also known for his role in K-drama Bad Prosecutor (2022), which marked his return to television following the completion of his military duties in January 2021.
