Vivoree Esclito, BGYO's Akira and JL confirmed to join 'Tabing Ilog: The Musical'

The beloved teen drama series Tabing Ilog is gearing up to return to the stage with a musical adaptation that stars fresh faces from showbiz, including Vivoree Esclito and BGYO’s Akira and JL. 

After its first staging in 2020, Tabing Ilog: The Musical is set for a comeback in November with a new script, new songs, and a new cast. 

In a media conference on Oct. 4, Star Magic and the Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) introduced the cast and crew of the upcoming musical. 

The cast consists of first-time thespians including Vivoree, BINI’s Jhoanna Robles, and Sheena Belarmino who will share the role of Eds, originally played by Kaye Abad in the series. 

Also making their theater debut are Akira Morishita and JL from P-pop boy group BGYO, who will alternate as Rovic, originally played by John Lloyd Cruz. 

The musical stars Kiara Takahashi, who previously played Eds in the 2020 run. She will alternate the role of George—originally played by Jodi Sta. Maria—with Chaye Mogg and Andi Abaya. While Desiree del Valle’s role as Corinne will be shared by Miah Canton and Anji Salvacion,  

Additionally, Patrick Garcia’s character James will be played by Jordan Andrews and Kobie Brown. Meanwhile, Baron Geisler’s role of Fonzy will be alternated by Vino Mabalot and Drei Sugay; Paolo Contis’ Badong will be shared by Earvin Estioco and Jude Matthew Servilla.  

Apart from a fresh storyline, the restaging will also introduce new characters: Omar Uddin as Andoy, Teetin Villanueva as Anchang, Red Nuestro as Panyong, Lance Reblando as Meow, Vyen Villanueva as Toots, Neomi Gonzales as Azon, and Joann Co as Lola Juling.  

Tabing Ilog: The Musical will be directed by Phil Noble with musical direction by Vincent A. DeJesus. The show will feature 24 songs and will be set in a modern timeline, targeting the Gen Z audience. 

It will also be written by Eljay Deldoc with additional lyrics by Jade Castro. 

The musical is set to run at the PETA Theater from Nov. 10 to Dec. 17, with shows starting at 8 p.m. every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, and at 3 p.m. on weekends.
