There's so much to celebrate and remember every October—there's Halloween, Oktoberfest, and Breast Cancer Awareness Month. But for art lovers and history geeks, there's Museum and Galleries Month.

This annual celebration, established in 1991 by Presidential Proclamation No. 798, highlights the importance of Filipino culture and heritage. This year's theme, "Exhibits and Reflections: Crafting Opportunities for the New World," emphasizes the importance of art galleries and museums in enriching Filipino culture in modern times.

“What a Filipino today gets from museums is a space for conversation, contemplation. It doesn’t matter if they go there on a date or to make content for Instagram or TikTok. Choosing to go to the museum rather than the mall is already a win. It can then be their entry point to local art and culture,” said Jorell M. Legaspi, the National Museum’s deputy director general for museums.

While we know that entrance to most museums comes with a price, many institutions are opening their doors for free to visitors this month. Ahead, check out the museums offering free entrance and activities this Museum and Galleries Month.
