CCP to screen London National Theatre musicals 'Life of Pi,' 'Hamlet,' and more starting September

Pinoy theater lovers would no longer have to travel far to watch the best of British theatre, as the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) is bringing these glorious musicals right into local cinemas.

On Sept. 12, the CCP Film, Broadcast and New Media announced on social media that it is screening musicals by the London National Theatre in Ayala Greenbelt cinemas from September 2023 to May 2024. The event is the first run of CCP's new program called "CCP National Theatre Live."

The CCP National Theatre Live (Season One) will feature popular musicals, namely Life of Pi, Frankenstein, The Seagull, Much Nothing Ado, The Crucible, Fleabag, Othello, King Lear, and Hamlet. 

Some of them are starred by famous celebrities, including Emilia Clarke, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Ian McKellen, and  Benedict Cumberbatch, among others.

It will officially launch on Sept. 26 in Greenbelt cinemas, with the Tony Award and Oliver Award-winning musical Life of Pi as its first show.

All musicals will be screened at 5:30 p.m. on the following dates:

  • Life of Pi - Sept. 26, 2023
  • Frankenstein - Oct. 31, 2023
  • The Seagull - Nov. 28, 2023
  • Much Ado About Nothing - Dec. 18, 2023
  • The Crucible - Jan. 30, 2024
  • Fleabag - Feb. 27, 2024
  • Othello - March 26, 2024
  • King Lear - April 30, 2024
  • Hamlet - May 28, 2024

The regular ticket price for each screening is P250, while the special ticket price for students is P150.
