Apple explains causes for iPhone 15 overheating, says a fix is coming soon
It's just been a few weeks since Apple launched the iPhone 15 series, but the highly coveted smartphones have already received complaints for getting unusually hot when used. The tech giant, however, announced that a fix is on its way.
Apple told Forbes and tech outlet 9to5Mac that a new software update is in the works to address the overheating issues that several iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro users have complained about on Reddit and social media platforms over the past week.
The Cupertino-based company explained that the overheating problems usually occur in units that have just been activated.
"We have identified a few conditions which can cause iPhone to run warmer than expected. The device may feel warmer during the first few days after setting up or restoring the device because of increased background activity," Apple told the outlets.
It added that a bug in the latest iOS 17 software worsens the overheating problems in the iPhone 15 series and that that a fix is coming soon: " We have also found a bug in iOS 17 that is impacting some users and will be addressed in a software update."
"Another issue involves some recent updates to third-party apps that are causing them to overload the system. We’re working with these app developers on fixes that are in the process of rolling out," it added.
These third-party apps include Instagram, AspPhalt 9, and Uber. However, Instagram had already issued a fix for the problem last September 27.
Apple further clarified that the new titanium design did not cause the new models to overheat and run at abnormally high temperatures, and this new casing even helps for better heat dissipation.
It added that “there is no safety risk” to iPhone 15 users, and that this will not affect the long-term performance of the devices. They are also working directly with the developers for a solution.
As of today, the release of the said update is still unknown.
Apple unveiled the iPhone 15 series last Sept. 13 (Philippine time), and released it in stores in the U.S. last Sept. 22. The iPhone 15 base model starts at P56,990, and Pro models start at P70,990.
