Actress Kristen Stewart is set to play the late Princess Diana in the upcoming biopic Spencer.
In the first photo released by indie movie company Neon, Stewart, who sports blond hair, a red coat and a black-netted hat, bears an uncanny resemblance to the late princess.
The Twilight star’s outfit in the photo was seemed to be based on what Diana wore as her Christmas Day outfit on the way to Sandringham Church, which was also believed as one of the “People’s Princess’” last holidays with the royal family.
The film is set in December 1991 and focuses on a Christmas weekend at the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk, a pivotal time for Diana, as she decides to leave her marriage with Prince Charles, which has long since grown cold.
The biopic, directed by Pablo Larrain and written by Steven Knight, is currently filming in Germany before moving the production to the UK.
Spencer is expected to debut later this year, ahead of Diana’s 25th death anniversary in 2022.
Diana and Prince Charles married in 1981, separated in 1992 and were eventually divorced in 1996. They had two sons, Prince William and Prince Harry.
In 1997, Diana, a beloved humanitarian and global icon, tragically died from injuries she suffered in a car crash in Paris.
