Netflix has unveiled the cast for the upcoming season of Squid Game with four new characters.

The online streaming platform announced the names of new and returning characters who will be part of the Korean megahit series' second season. Four new players are set to join the game, including Im Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Sung-hoon, and Yang Dong-guen.

Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-Hun, Wi Ha-jun, and Gong Yoo will all be reprising their roles for the show's next installment.

Squid Game Season 2 is set to premiere in 2024, as confirmed during a press conference in September last year.

“We will start shooting Season 2 next year [in 2023] and it’ll be released the following year,” director Hwang Dong-hyuk said at the time.

The original series debuted on Netflix on Sept. 17, 2021, clocking a massive 1.65 billion hours viewed in the first 28 days. The global phenomenon became the first series to surpass 100 million members at the launch. It remains to be the most-watched series ever on Netflix.

Squid Game revolves around a secret survival competition staging 456 players to compete in a series of deadly games for the chance to win a $35 million reward.

The nine-episode blockbuster made history during the 74th Emmy Awards in 2022, bagging six wins out of 14 nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series as well as several actor and supporting actor titles.
