Baby Groot is out for more adorable mischief in 'I Am Groot' season 2 trailer
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 may have concluded Peter Quill's (mis)adventures with his gang, but that doesn't mean the fun has stopped for the rest of this band of misfits. Groot is making his small screen comeback as his much younger and most adorable self in the second season of I Am Groot.
The series, which initially streamed on Disney+ in August 2022, features the seedling Groot and his quests that get him into trouble and, at the same time, allow him to meet new friends between the event of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 and 2.
In time for National Tree Day on Aug. 6, Marvel Studios and Disney announced on social media that the animated series is getting its second season, which is set to land on Disney+ on Sept. 6.
According to Marvel's press release, I Am Groot Season 2 will be "picking right back up with the mischievous sapling and his journey among the stars."
If Baby Groot's big round eyes and cute li'l physique don't convince you to watch the show, then let its eye-popping trailer do the talking.
The over-a-minute clip shows the beloved character getting enamored by a neon-filled ice cream truck that prompts him to drive a rocket and go through fire and ice to catch it. This is in addition to him playing action figures, as any toddler would.
Fans can expect all of these and more in the upcoming series which consists of five brand-new shorts, just like the first season.
In an interview with Variety last year, Marvel Studios animated producer Brad Winderbaum explained how the series gives fans a closer look at what makes Baby Groot charming and appealing.
"It's fun to see what he does when nobody's looking," Winderbaum explained. "Like an actual kid, that's where he gets into the most trouble—when he's right outside the realm of parental eyes. That's part of the shorts you kind of identify with, or at least I do. You watch it and I remember what it was like to be a kid, and the other side of me is, 'Oh, that's what it's like to be a parent, watching a kid and worrying they're going to be doing something terrible.'"
I Am Groot Season 2 is the first series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to air a second season prior to Loki, which is set to drop its second chapter on Oct. 6 also on Disney+.
