Jennifer Aniston revealed she was texting Matthew Perry hours before he passed away, noting that the latter “wasn’t struggling” at the time.

In her first interview after the untimely passing of her Friends co-star, the actress recalled her last moments with the actor. She said he was the usual “funny Matty” she knew.

“He was happy. He was healthy. He had quit smoking. He was getting in shape. He was happy—that’s all I know,” she tearfully told Variety.

“I was literally texting with him that morning, funny Matty,” she shared. “He was not in pain. He wasn’t struggling. He was happy.”

“I want people to know he was really healthy, and getting healthy. He was on a pursuit,” the 54-year-old actress added. “He worked so hard. He really was dealt a tough one.”

Matthew, who was recovering from his alcohol and drug addiction, had a near-death experience in 2019 after his colon burst as one of the effects of his opioid use. Since then, he was recovering and was on a life mission to help others who were suffering from the same problem.

“I miss him dearly. We all do. Boy, he made us laugh really hard,” she continued.

Matthew was found dead in a jacuzzi in his home in late October. Entertainment outlet TMZ, in its report, noted that there was no foul play involved and that no drugs were found at the scene.

He was buried in early November at the Forest Lawn Memorial Park, which is situated near the Warner Bros. Studios lot where his iconic 90s show was filmed.

While promoting his book Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing: A Memoir published in November 2022, the actor shared that he wanted to be remembered as somebody "who lived well, loved well, was a seeker."

"And his paramount thing is that he wants to help people. That’s what I want," he added.

Matthew was best known for his character in Friends as Chandler Bing. He also appeared in films like 17 Again, Fools Rush In, and The Whole Nine Yards
