Morissette speaks up on 'disappointing' performance at event, says she was sick

Morissette has spoken up against the "nasty rumors" regarding her performance at a recent corporate event.

On her Instagram Stories, the "Asia's Phoenix" aired her side of the story, saying that it's "unfair" that people judge so quickly.

"I REALLY DON'T UNDERSTAND WHERE ALL THIS HATE IS COMING FROM," she wrote.

The singer said she has "never met the man" who posted the rumors on social media that's why she is "really not getting why he went out of his way to put out so much hate towards me and my craft."

Morissette said she was down with a fever the day before the event and "was so close to canceling."

"But, the show must go on, and I went as agreed," she wrote.

Morisette continued that she usually drives herself to work. However, she had to ask her husband, who had to cancel his work that day, to drive her to the event. The singer also said that the "talent coordinator was made aware of my health state and took care of us backstage as I was getting ready."

Morissette admitted that she once "became so dependent" on steroids for her voice and that she only uses one now for emergencies.

"And that night I believe was one of them and I had no choice but to take another 16mg," she wrote. "I performed as planned, again not a hundred percent, but rest assured I gave my all, even congratulating the awardees on stage and still belting my heart out."

Morissette shared that her team, including the event staff, "applauded me for getting through my set despite knowing I wasn't in my best shape."

"So I really don't know what else to tell you guys. I showed up to that event and still tried to give it my all, but I guess I can't please everybody," she added.

The Gusto Ko Nang Bumitaw singer said: "I really didn't think much of this issue cuz my conscience is clear. I have pretty high standards for myself especially when it comes to my craft, but I knew then that there wasn't really much I could do because I am in fact still human and get sick and have down days too."

She is calling for everyone to take care of themselves and "stay away from unnecessary negativity."

'She seemed zapped of energy'

This was after event director Vic Sevilla posted a now-deleted blind item on his Facebook account of a guest singer "known for belting extremely difficult songs and her ability to 'whistle' a la Mariah Carey" allegedly did an underwhelming performance for an event. He also gave a clue that the singer is "labeled as the 'phoenix.'"

"Naturally, we were expecting no less than a fiery performance from her," he said.

"Sadly, her much-vaunted vocal power appeared to be missing that night. She seemed zapped of energy, acted uninterested, and sounded distant and cold. It was as if all enthusiasm escaped her the moment she stepped on stage. It was just disappointing given that performers of her stature and popularity demand a hefty price to appear in corporate events," he continued.

Vic said Morissette could at least have "faked enthusiasm" and "not act as if she wanted to get off the stage in haste."

"She was, at that moment, a complete waste of time and money," he ended.

Morissette started her journey in the music industry at the age of 14, emerging as a runner-up in TV5's Star Factor. She also became a semi-finalist for The Voice of the Philippines. The 27-year-old singer's discography includes three studio albums and two extended plays.
