‘Kill Boksoon’ star Jeon Do-yeon says she approached the film's director herself first: 'I wanted to become more of an independent actor'

Jeon Do-yeon is one fiesty woman—on-and-off screen.

The Crash Course in Romance star revealed to Korea Herald that she first approached Byun Sung-hyun, the director of the chart-topping Netflix action film Kill Boksoon, of which she stars in. The 50-year-old actress said she was looking to collaborate with "young and rising directors."

“I had spent quite a long time waiting for the right project to come along, but I wanted to become more of an independent actor. So I approached a number of young and rising directors and director Byun was one of them,” Jeon said.

She added that Byun found her and her character Gil Bok-soon, a female assasin who juggles her role as a mother and killer, similar to one another.

“Byun visited my house often and he found it funny to see me panic at home doing household chores and hardly communicating with my 15-year-old daughter. To be honest, Kill Boksoon is not just about action but is a family movie of a struggling working mom,” Jeon shared.

The Korean actress said that she took the role because the character resonated to her and that she wanted to show the viewers what she can also do other genres aside from drama.

“I want to show more parts of me, although the audience may think Jeon Do-yeon is just a queen of drama and there is nothing else to expect from me,” she added.

Kill Boksoon aired on Netflix on March 31.
