Vina Morales to make her Broadway debut in 'Here Lies Love'

Vina Morales is headed to Broadway!

The Filipina singer and actress will make her stage debut in Here Lies Love for a month-long engagement beginning in September.

Vina will join the all-Filipino cast for a limited guest engagement from Sept. 22 to Oct. 22 at the Broadway Theatre in New York City. She will play the role of Aurora Aquino, the mother of Ninoy Aquino (played in the show by Conrad Ricamora of How to Get Away with Murder).

Lea Salonga, who played as Aurora until Aug. 19, said, “I am so excited to share the news that my friend Vina Morales will be joining our fabulous all-Filipino company in Here Lies Love! So talented and lovely, but most of all, so kind. She will be a wonderful addition to our cast!”

Lea will remain a key member of the show's co-producing team.

Speaking about the news, Vina said, “To be able to perform on Broadway is a dream come true for any artist! I am grateful to 'Coach Lea' Salonga for guiding me along the way. You’re the best, Lea! =) I am excited to be part of the Here Lies Love family and I can’t wait to perform for all of you!”

Here Lies Love is a "revolutionary" musical by David Byrne and Fatboy Slim. It tells the story of the former Philippines First Lady Imelda Marcos' and her family's rise and fall in the Philippines.

Aside from Vina, Lea, and Conrad, the play also features Arielle Jacobs as Imelda Marcos, Jose Llana as Ferdinand Marcos Sr.,  Aaron J. Albano, Melody Butiu, Moses Villarama, Jasmine Forsberg, Reanne Acasio, Jaygee Macapugay, Julia Abueva, Renée Albulario, Aaron Alcaraz, Carol Angeli, Nathan Angelo, Kristina Doucette, Roy Flores, Timothy Matthew Flores, Sarah Kay, Jeigh Madjus, Aaron “AJ” Mercado, Geena Quintos, Shea Renne, Angelo Soriano, and Danielle Troiano.

Tickets can be bought online or in person.

Vina, dubbed the Ultimate Performer, rose to popularity in the 90s for her roles in Ang Utol Kong HoodlumMiss na Miss Kita, and Maging Sino Ka Man.

She won numerous awards as a singer and has performed on international stages for New York International Music Festival and Jim Brickman's “Your Love” tour in the United States.
