MrBeast is the first person to reach one million followers on Threads
MrBeast, one of the most followed personalities on the internet, is making history once again after becoming the first person to reach one million followers on the new social media platform Threads.
According to Guinness World Records, the YouTuber, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, managed to surpass one million followers just hours after the app became available on iOS and Android app stores on July 6.
In case you're late to the news, Threads is a new text-based social media platform created by Meta founder Mark Zuckerburg, serving as a rival to Twitter because of their similar formats.
Despite the fact that Zuckerberg owns the app, MrBeast was the first to reach one million followers. Zuckerberg was the second.
However, the record-keeping site clarified, "While technically his wasn’t the first account to reach the number, the others belonged to organizations like Instagram and National Geographic."
As of this writing, MrBeast has over 2.7 million followers on his Threads account while Zuckerburg has 1.9 million.
Guinness World Records captured the moment MrBeast reached one million followers, and he responded to the news on Twitter by joking, "Shhhhh, don't let the Twitter police know I'm cheating on them."
In his latest post, MrBeast announced that he is giving away a Tesla car with the Threads logo to a random follower in celebration of the app's successful launch.
Aside from him, many other famous personalities have joined the new social media platform, including Kim Kardashian, Shakira, Will Smith, and Jennifer Lopez.
MrBeast gained prominence for his content that revolve around expensive stunts, such as recreating the popular South Korean survival series Squid Game by recruiting hundreds of participants to play the viral show's games—sans the deaths. He also made headlines when he helped 1,000 blind people get cataract surgeries.
Because of this, he has amassed a huge following across all of his social media channels. His YouTube account currently has 165 million subscribers while his Instagram has 38.6 million followers.
